Massachusetts Softball Edged By St. Joseph's, 5-4

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Massachusetts softball team wrapped up their first three-game Atlantic 10 series on Sunday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's by a score of 5 to 4. The Minutewomen now sit at 7-14 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 11-11.

The Hawks got on the board first in the bottom of the second when Lauren Pscolka hit an RBI single and scored Hailey Malito.

Massachusetts had the opportunity to get on the board themselves in the top of the fourth with the bases loaded and capitalized. Abby Packard hit a 2 RBI single to send Jordyn Graime and Bella Pantoja home.

Jessica Gaughan evened the score at two apiece in the bottom of the fourth when she hit an RBI double to plate Karlee Smith. Payton Baxter then sent Gaughan home on a sacrifice fly before Malito made it home off a wild pitch. Kayla Tauber made it home off a Sarah Cancila RBI single.

Pantoja responded to the Hawks' scoring with a home run at the top of the fifth, bringing both herself and Chloe Whittier home.

Jenna Bradley got the start in the circle, allowing one earned run and recording one strikeout in 3.0 innings of work before Natalee Horton relieved her. Horton worked for 0.2 innings, recording a strikeout and allowing no earned runs. Jessie DiPasquale finished out the game, throwing 2.1 innings and recording a strikeout.

UMass softball returns to action on Wednesday, March 22 as they head north to Lowell for one against UMass Lowell at 2 p.m. before traveling west to Dayton for a three-game series on Saturday, March 25 and 26.
