Norfolk State Runs Past Massachusetts Softball, 13-5

The Spartans struck first in the second inning when Cam Andersen RBI singled to send Lily Potter home. Lauren Sheehan then stole home to double their advantage. Yrral Davis then scored Lauren Wisswell on an RBI single.
Gabby Vaughan continued Norfolk State's scoring in the third inning, sending Jade Dixon home on a 2 RBI home run. Dixon recorded two more RBIs on a single in the fourth inning, plating Andersen and Davis.
The Minutewomen looked to make a comeback in the bottom of the fourth when Abby Packard walked Chloe Whittier and Angie Rama was hit by a pitch to advance Jules Shields. Olivia Packard wrapped up the inning with an RBI, scoring Grace Cadden.
In the fifth inning, Imani Moore hit a 2 RBI double to send Anderson and Davis home. Kenna HIga reached on an error to score Brianna Rucker. Sheehan then hit a 2 RBI single to plate Potter and Victoria Taylor. Moore recorded another RBI when she sent Sheehan home on a fly ball.
Giana Wameling then RBI walked and scored Jordyn Graime at the bottom of the sixth and Whittier hit an RBI pop up to plate Emily Whelan to conclude scoring on the day.
Jenna Bradley started off the contest in the circle, throwing 2.1 innings and recording a strikeout before Jessie DiPasquale relieved her, throwing the remaining 3.2 innings in the circle and recording two strikeouts.
UMass softball returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 p.m. as they take on the Providence College Friars.
