UMass Resumes A-10 Play This Weekend At George Mason

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team resumes Atlantic 10 play this weekend with three games on the road at George Mason. The series begins at the George Mason Softball Complex on Sunday with a noon doubleheader with all three games slated for ESPN+.
New Weekend Schedule
UMass now opens the series with a doubleheader on Sunday at noon with game two set for approximately 2:30 p.m. The series will conclude on Monday at noon with game three.
Atlantic 10 Road Play
The Minutewomen are 3-2 in Atlantic 10 contests on the road having swept Rhode Island in a doubleheader while going 1-2 at Saint Louis the following weekend. UMass is hitting .302 as a team over the five-game road stretch in league action, led by Jules Shields' .438 average with Kendra Allen (.429) and Amy Smith (.400) each hitting .400 or better.
Multi-Hit/RBI Leaders
Bella Pantoja leads the Minutewomen in multi-hit games with eight on the year while Chloe Whittier has recorded seven multi-hit games to go along with a team-leading five multi-RBI games. Kendra Allen ranks second on the team in multi-RBI performances and is the only player to record five or more RBI in a game this season as she racked up six in game two at Saint Louis.
Free Bases
Kendra Allen ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 51st nationally in walks per game at 0.68 and has eight walks in eight league games. Allen finished the 2021 season as the A-10 leader in on-base percentage while ranking 26th nationally in the category in addition to ranking sixth in walks per game at 0.94.
Tough To Strikeout
Chloe Whittier is the seventh-toughest batter in the Atlantic 10 to strikeout having been sent down by strikes just seven times this season through 31 games. Whittier averages just over 13 at-bats between strikeouts.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen head to Boston next Wednesday for a midweek matchup against the Terriers at 3 p.m. before returning home to Sortino Field for seven of their next eight games. UMass hosts St. Bonaventure in the series opener on Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. and hosts UMass Lowell on Wednesday, April 20 and Saint Joseph's the following weekend.
