Softball Falls To UConn At Sortino Field

The Minutewomen return to Atlantic 10 play this weekend with three games at George Mason.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to UConn 15-0 in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at Sortino Field. The Minutewomen return to Atlantic 10 play this weekend with three games at George Mason beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m.
UConn put together six hits to score seven runs in the second inning and capped off the frame with a bases clearing, three-RBI double from Lexi Hastings. The Huskies added two runs in both the third and fourth innings before a Hastings grand slam in the fifth brought the score to a 15-0 final.
Payge Suggs picked up a base hit after Bella Pantoja walked to open the fourth inning to help give UMass its best scoring opportunity of the afternoon before a double play halted the chance.
Julianne Bolton started the game in the circle for the Minutewomen and picked up an early strikeout on her way to finishing with 3.0 innings of work before Jenna Bradley and Kali Puppolo entered in relief.
Elise Sokolsky picked up the win in the circle for the Huskies as she threw the first three frames and picked up a strikeout.
