Softball Heads To Dayton For Atlantic 10 Series

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team hits the road this weekend for its final Atlantic 10 series away from home this season at Dayton. The Minutewomen open the series against the Flyers with a noon doubleheader on Saturday and are set to conclude the series on Sunday at noon.

Last Time Out
The Minutewomen picked up a series win over Saint Joseph's in their last time out over the weekend at Sortino Field. UMass defeated Saint Joseph's 2-0 in game one behind seven strikeouts from Jessie DiPasquale and RBI from Amy Smith and Kristina Day. The Minutewomen secured the series win with a 3-0 win in game three on Sunday as UMass put together a three-run sixth inning to take game three.

Our Pitcher of the Week
Jessie DiPasquale went 3-1 with a 0.89 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23.2 innings for the Minutewomen last week and earned UMass Student-Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts. DiPasquale tossed a pair of shutout wins to help UMass secure a series victory over Saint Joseph's at Sortino Field, including a seven-strikeout game in the series opening win. The junior added a win in relief at Rhode Island before closing out the week with another shutout win over the Hawks in game three.

Pushin' P
Payge Suggs ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 92nd nationally in on-base percentage at .479. Suggs recorded a .500 on-base percentage over five games last week and is the only UMass batter to post four hits in a game this season. The sophomore holds a nine game on-base streak at the moment to rank second-longest this season for a Minutewoman hitter.

Kendra On Fire
Kendra Allen posted a .462 batting average with a .611 on-base percentage to go along with seven RBI for the Minutewomen over five games last week. Allen ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in walks and ranks 38th nationally in walks per game with 0.70. Allen sits second on the UMass squad in on-base percentage at .429 and finished the 2021 season as the A-10 leader in on-base percentage and ranked sixth nationally in walks per game.

Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen have five games left on the regular season schedule following their three-game series at Dayton. UMass takes on Stony Brook for a midweek doubleheader on the road Wednesday, May 4 before hosting George Washington on May 7-8 at Sortino Field for the regular season finale. The Minutewomen will host senior day on Saturday, May 7,
