Softball Falls To App. State, #16 Georgia On Day Two Of Bulldog Classic

Kendra Allen led the UMass offense with three hits and three RBI on the day.

ATHENS, Ga.The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to Appalachian State 9-2 and to No. 16-ranked Georgia 13-4 on the second day of the Bulldog Classic. Kendra Allen led the UMass offense with three hits and three RBI over two games.
 
Game 1 – Appalachian State 9, UMass 2
The Minutewomen went down 5-0 through three and a half innings before putting a pair of runs on the board over the next two frames. Kayt Houston led the Mountaineers with five RBI on three hits, including two home runs. Houston extended the Appalachian State lead to five runs in the fourth with a two-run home run and added another two-run shot in a four-run, seventh inning.
 
Kendra Allen drove in both of UMass' runs in the opening game, bringing in the first on a RBI single down the left field line to score Payge Suggs from second. Allen added her second RBI in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Chloe Whittier to make it a 5-2 game.
 
Amy Smith and Kristina Day each added hits for the Minutewomen on the game.
 
Game 2 - #16 Georgia 13, UMass 4 (5 inn.)
UMass plated three runs in the opening inning to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom half of the frame. Allen got the scoring started with a RBI single to score Suggs before Smith crossed on a Georgia fielding error on the same play. Caroline Deem plated the third and final run of the first with a RBI base hit down the first base line to drive in Whittier.
 
Whittier picked up a RBI of her own in the second after Georgia tied in the bottom of the first to make it a 4-3 game.
 
The Bulldogs added four runs to take a 7-4 lead in the third inning after a pair of two-run home runs from Lacey Fincher and Ellie Armistead. Georgia used the long ball again in the fifth inning as Aniyah Black hit a pinch hit, three-run home run to make it 10-4. Fincher followed with her second home run of the game, a three-run long ball to left field to make it a 13-4 final.
