Minutewomen Split Doubleheader On The Road Against Billikens

Kendra Allen drove in seven runs on four hits while Amy Smith added four in the doubleheader.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Massachusetts softball team took game two on Saturday by a score of 16-10 to come away with a doubleheader split on the road at Saint Louis. Kendra Allen drove in seven runs on the afternoon, including six in a game two win to lead a UMass offense that plated a season-high 16 runs.
Game 1 – Saint Louis 9, UMass 3
Allen, along with Amy Smith and Bella Pantoja, paced the UMass offense with a pair of hits each in game one as the Minutewomen finished with nine to Saint Louis' 10 hits.
The Billikens used the long ball to jump out to a 2-0 lead behind a pair of solo home runs from Sadie Wise and Cami Newbanks.
UMass answered with a home run of their own in the top of the third as Abby Packard recorded her second deep ball of the year to make it a 2-1 game. The Minutewomen took a 3-2 lead in the fifth after an Abby Lamson RBI and an Allen RBI single before Saint Louis plated seven unanswered.
Saint Louis followed with a six-run fifth inning that was sparked by an Allie Herron three-run home run and went on to add another in the sixth to make it a 9-3 final.
Game 2 – UMass 16, Saint Louis 10
UMass scored six unanswered runs to open game two, beginning with an Allen bases clearing triple for her first three of six RBI in game two. Kristina Day led off the second inning with a solo home run to left field before Chloe Whittier hit a two-RBI double to the right center field gap to make it 6-0.
Julianne Bolton picked up her second Atlantic 10 win of the season as she went the distance in the circle for the Minutewomen. Bolton struck out 10, including six in the first three innings as she retired nine straight following a leadoff single.
Saint Louis responded to UMass' six runs in the opening four frames with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth and added three more after the Minutewomen scored another in the fifth to make it a 7-5 contest.
The Minutewomen stretched the lead back to six runs in the sixth inning with four runs on four hits and an error. Payge Suggs, Smith and Whittier opened the sixth with three straight singles to set up a Lamson walk that brought home a run. Allen reached on an error and drove in a run the following at-bat before Jules Shields capped off the inning with a RBI single to make the score 11-5.
The Billikens came back with a five-run inning of their own in the bottom half, using a pair of home runs to pull within a run at 11-10.
UMass sealed the win with a five-run seventh inning as Suggs, Smith and Whittier each singled once again to open the frame. After a run scored on a Billiken error, Allen sent a two-RBI single to left field to bring in a pair before a sacrifice fly brought in the 16th and final run of the game for the Minutewomen.
The Minutewomen and Billikens wrap up the three-game series tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
