Softball Falls To Boston College In Home Opener

Kendra Allen finished with two hits on the day to lead the UMass offense.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to Boston College in the Sortino Field opener on Wednesday afternoon in five innings, 11-0. Kendra Allen led the Minutewomen with a pair of hits on the afternoon.
Allen picked up her first hit in the bottom of the second inning to put two runners on for thee Minutewomen with one down before a fielder's choice and interference ruling ended the frame. The senior added a two-out single in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
The Minutewomen held the Eagles scoreless in the first after a two-out double before Boston College opened their scoring in the top of the second with three runs on three hits. The Eagles added three more in the third and plated five runs on five hits with an error in the fourth to pull ahead 11-0.
Ellie Mataya drove in three runs for BC in the second with a two-out, three-RBI triple while Kennedy Labsherre added two hits and a RBI. In the circle, Susannah Anderson threw all five innings for BC and struck out three with two walks and three hits allowed.
Julianne Bolton threw the first 3.1 innings for the Minutewomen before Jessie DiPasquale entered in relief in the fourth to finish out the final 1.2 innings. DiPasquale allowed two hits in relief in the fourth before blanking the Eagles in the fifth.
UMass resumes Atlantic 10 play this weekend with a three-game series at Saint Louis beginning on Friday before returning home to Sortino Field on Wednesday, March 30 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Maine.
