Softball Picks Up 10-0 Win At Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Eight different Minutewomen recorded a base hit as the UMass softball team picked up a 10-0 shutout victory in five innings over Incarnate Word on Saturday at the Cardinal Invitational. Jessie DiPasquale earned the win in the circle for the Minutewomen (4-4 Overall) as she tossed all five innings and struck out six while allowing just four hits in her first shutout of the season.

UMass got on the board during the very first at-bat of the game as Bella Pantoja doubled to center field and came all the way around to score on an error. The Minutewomen nearly added to their lead in the second, but the runner was thrown out at the plate to end the frame.

Chloe Whittier added a run with a RBI double to score Kendra Allen in the third to make it a 2-0 ball game. Allen finished the game with three walks, a RBI and two runs scored.

The Minutewomen broke open the game in the fourth with a five-run inning to pull ahead 7-0. Abby Lamson came through with a bases loaded, three-RBI double to clear the bases. Whittier followed with her second RBI of the game before Taylor Spexarth drove in a run with a RBi single.

The offense closed it out in the fifth with three more runs, beginning with a Pantoja double that brought home Abby Packard after a leadoff walk. Pantoja finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with a RBI and three runs scored.

UMass added two more with an Allen RBI base hit to score Payge Suggs before Pantoja crossed to make it a 10-0 final.

The Minutewomen wrap up the Cardinal Invitational tomorrow morning with a rematch against Boise State at 11 a.m. ET.
