Softball Falls In Saturday Doubleheader At Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts softball team fell in road doubleheader at Fordham on Saturday, dropping game one 10-1 before a 5-2 final in game two. Kendra Allen and Jules Shields each picked up a pair of hits in the second game while Hannah Bunker drove in a run in game one.
Game 1 - Fordham 10, UMass 1 (5 inn.)
UMass responded with a run in its second trip to the plate in game one after the Rams took a 3-0 lead after one played. Amy Smith reached after being hit by a pitch before advancing to second on a Fordham error. Bunker came through with a two-out, RBI single to right center to bring in Smith from third to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Rams.
Fordham added four runs on three hits in the bottom of the second and brought home one in the third and two in the fifth to take game one, 10-1.
Game 2 - Fordham 5, UMass 2
The Minutewomen took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of after Shields started things off with one of her two hits that led to UMass runs in game two. Shields doubled to right center to leadoff the third inning before eventually scoring on a Fordham error.
Shields scored again in the seventh inning, this time on an Allen single through the right side that brought the Minutewomen within three runs. Allen finished with a pair of hits and a walk for UMass in four trips to the plate in the second game of the day.
Fordham answered UMass' run in the bottom half of the third by scoring a pair of runs before going on to plate three in the fourth inning to pull ahead 5-1 in an eventual 5-2 final.
The series wraps up tomorrow with the fourth and final game at noon on ESPN+.
