Pirate Invitational
UMass heads to Greenville, N.C. this weekend for a pair of games at the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina. The weekend opens up on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Minutewomen taking on the hosts East Carolina before facing off against Towson at 6:30 p.m. The contest against Towson marks the first matchup between the two programs while UMass is tied 2-2 in the all-time series against East Carolina.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen went 2-2 to open up the season at the Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. last weekend, picking up opening day wins over Buffalo and Maryland Eastern Shore. UMass used a pair of two-run home runs by Dani Ellis and Kendra Allen in the 6-2 win over Buffalo to open the season before shutting out Maryland Eastern Shore 11-0 behind seven RBI by Caroline Videtto.
Atlantic 10 Player of the Week
Videtto secured her first ever Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors after hitting .583 with eight RBI, three extra base hits and four runs scored. The junior outfielder tied the UMass single game mark for second-most RBI in a single game with seven against Maryland Eastern Shore. Videtto hit her first career home run in the contest, a grand slam, before clearing the bases with a double to bring her to seven RBI.
Last Pirate Invitational
The Minutewomen went 5-0 in their last trip to Greenville for the Pirate Invitational a year ago, defeating both Columbia and Winthrop twice while shutting out the host East Carolina 5-0 on day two. Alyssa Lyon drove in a run with a RBI triple in the win over the Pirates with Kiara Oliver going the distance in the circle, striking out five while allowing just three hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Weather Woes
The Minutewomen will now play two games over the weekend at the Pirate Invitational as Friday's action was canceled due to forecasted weather and low temperatures.
