April 17, 2019 | Softball
Hannah Bunker finished with a pair of hits while Erin Stacevicz and Kaycee Carbone each brought in a run.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts softball team plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to force extras, but wound up falling to Boston College in the eighth inning 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Sortino Field. The Minutewomen (20-17 Overall) put runners on base in the first six innings as they finished with six hits.
Boston College took a two-run lead in their second trip to the plate, scoring after a drop third strike that got away before a RBI single.
Kenadee Rausch settled in after allowing the two runs, retiring five straight batters after the RBI single while facing nine consecutive batters without allowing a hit or a walk. Rausch finished her day after throwing five innings with three strikeouts and two runs allowed before being replaced by Quinn Breidenbach in the top of the sixth inning.
The Minutewomen started their two-run sixth inning with a Caroline Videtto walk followed by a Kendra Allen hit-by-pitch and a Hannah Bunker single that loaded the bases with one out in the inning. Bunker finished with a team-leading two hits on the game to go along with a run scored.
Erin Stacevicz and Kaycee Carbone worked a pair of walks, the first coming with one out to pull the Minutewomen within a run before Carbone's free pass brought in Bunker to tie things up at 2-2. Carbone picked up a pair of walks with a hit and a RBI in the contest.
The Eagles took advantage of a leadoff walk in the eighth inning on their way to putting a pair of runners on with one down before a single to center field brought in the first of four runs. An error allowed BC to score two runs the following at-bat before they added their final score of the day on a fielder's choice with two down.
Kendra Allen and Melissa Garcia each added a hit for the Minutewomen while Videtto worked a pair of walks and scored a run.
The Minutewomen return to the field for Atlantic 10 play this weekend as they head to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Flyers in a three-game series beginning on Friday.
