The Opponent
George Washington heads into its fourth Atlantic 10 series with a 6-3 league record to go along with a 30-11 overall record. The Colonials are led by both at the plate and in the circle by Sierra Lange, who is batting .441 with an 18-8 record in 30 pitching appearances. The Minutewomen swept the Colonials last season in Washington, D.C., using extra innings in a 7-4 game one win before wrapping up the series with a 15-0 win in five.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen got off to a hot start and had a chance to bring in the tying runs in the fifth and sixth innings of an eventual 6-4 loss on Wednesday to Central Connecticut State. Melissa Garcia led the way with a pair of hits and a first-inning RBI that helped UMass gain an early two-run lead. Alyssa Lyon drove in a run on a hit while Erin Stacevicz and Kaitlyn Stavinoha each picked up a hit and a run scored.
Top-20
Stavinoha moved into the top-20 in a pair of UMass career categories last week, climbing into 20th in career hits with 189 while her 101 RBI rank 19th-most all-time. Stavinoha needs 10 more hits to take over 16th on the career list and needs four RBI to take over 17th. With a solo homer in game two against La Salle last week, the senior became the 20th player in program history to eclipse the 100 RBI mark.
Record Watch
Stacevicz continues to move up the UMass record book as she needs to score one more run to break a tie with Holly Aprile (1989-92) for 9th for most runs scored in program history. The senior currently ranks 4th on the career hit list with 224 and would need 12 more hits to pass Aprile for 3rd all-time.
Kiara Oliver currently ranks 12th on the career strikeout list with 281 and needs 21 more to move into 11th all-time. The sophomore moved into the top-20 in career wins after picking up her 25th in a game one win over La Salle while closing out game two with her program record seventh career save.
Heating Up
The UMass offense has tallied nine or more hits in six of the last seven contests dating back to a game one win at Saint Louis on March 31 as the Minutewomen started the streak with 13 hits. As a team over the seven-game stretch, UMass is hitting .393 with 48 RBI and 53 runs scored.
Parking Advisory
There will be increased traffic around the lots near Sortino Field on Sunday as there will be a car show held in Lot 11 by McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Fans will still be able to park in the lot behind the Sortino Field outfield walls along with Lot 33.
