Last Time Out
The Minutewomen opened up Atlantic 10 play with a 2-0 record in a shortened series against St. Bonaventure in Boston last weekend. UMass batted .308 as a squad in the doubleheader, led by multi-hit games from sophomores Hannah Bunker and Jackie Kelley in a 5-1 game one win while Kiara Oliver held the Bonnies to just three hits and one run in the circle with seven strikeouts. In game two, the Minutewomen held off a late St. Bonaventure push on their way to a 5-4 win on Sunday afternoon. Erin Stacevicz and Kaitlyn Stavinoha each drove in two runs to go along with a pair of hits while Kaycee Carbone added a RBI.
Making Their Mark
Stacevicz's three hits over the weekend moved the senior into ninth all-time on the UMass career hit list with 211 and puts the outfielder within two hits of moving into the top-five with Kim Gutridge (1995-98) holding the record with 262 hits. Stacevicz needs five runs to reach the top-10 in career runs scored and currently ranks ninth in highest career batting average (.350). Oliver's save in game two gave the sophomore her fourth of the season, breaking the single-season program saves record while tying her with Brandice Balschmiter (2006-09) for most all-time while she remains fourth all-time in strikeouts per seven innings with 7.12. Oliver needs four strikeouts to move into 14th in the UMass record books for most career strikeouts and 54 to move into 10th as Darlene Claffey (1990-93) rounds out the top-10.
The Opponent
Boston College enters the midweek match against the Minutewomen with a 10-16 overall record and fresh off a series win over Syracuse at home last weekend. Offensively, the Eagles are led by Lexi DiEmmanuele's .376 average and a team-leading 16 runs scored while Emme Martinez leads BC in RBI with 17 and hits with 27. In the circle, Susannah Anderson owns a team-leading 3.60 ERA in a team-high 24 appearances to go along with Camryn Dolby's team-best 65 strikeouts.
Looking Ahead
UMass heads to St. Louis, Mo. following the midweek matchup at BC to take on Saint Louis a three-game Atlantic 10 series at the Billiken Sports Center on Saturday and Sunday. Saint Louis is 8-18 overall with a 3-0 mark in league play after sweeping La Salle at home on opening weekend.
