March 20, 2019 | Softball
Erin Stacevicz led the Minutewomen offense with two hits while Kaycee Carbone drove in the lone run.
BOSTON, Mass. – Kaycee Carbone drove in the lone UMass run in the top of the third inning before Boston University plated three unanswered runs to take the midweek contest at the BU Softball Field, 3-1. The Minutewomen (10-13 Overall) and the Terriers each had six hits apiece while UMass left seven stranded.
Erin Stacevicz finished the afternoon with two hits, one an extra-base double to left field as the center fielder ended the day 2-4 at the plate with a run on her way to moving within a hit of tying Candice Molinari (2004-07) for 10th all-time on the UMass career hit list. Stacevicz currently sits at 208 career hits to rank 11th while she moved into a tie for 13th most runs scored in a career with 118.
Carbone's 10th RBI of the season and fifth in the last three games put the Minutewomen on top in the third inning after a RBI single that drove in Stacevicz from second.
BU answered back by tying the game up their following at-bat with a two-out run of their own by way of an Emily Grant solo homer to center field, the first Terrier hit of the game off of Kiara Oliver. Oliver finished the contest with 10 strikeouts, marking the second time in the last four starts that the sophomore has fanned double-digit batters.
The Terriers eventually took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth after an AJ Huerta-Leipner two-RBI double.
Hannah Bunker tallied two hits of her own on a 2-of-2 showing at the plate to go along with a walk.
The Minutewomen are scheduled to play host to St. Bonaventure this weekend for a three-game series to open up Atlantic 10 play.
