Minutewomen Fall To Missouri, Troy At Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom

UMass wraps up the weekend tomorrow with a doubleheader against Iowa and Providence.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to Missouri 5-0 and Troy 5-1 on the second day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports on Saturday afternoon. Kaitlyn Stavinoha picked up her second home run of the season against Troy in game two to give the senior seven hits in 11 at-bats with three RBI through four games of play.
Game One – Missouri 5, UMass 0 - Box Score
Missouri scored all five of their runs with two outs, striking first in the bottom of the opening frame on a two-run home run to left field by Kolby Romaine.
Kiara Oliver settled in for the next five innings in the circle, holding the Tigers scoreless until a three-run bottom of the sixth inning that brought the score to a final 5-0. Oliver finished the outing with four strikeouts in six complete innings.
Danielle Ellis picked up the lone extra base hit for the Minutewomen with a double to left field to lead off the third inning. Amy Smith added a single with one down in the top of the seventh.
Game Two – Troy 5, UMass 1 - Box Score
A first inning two-run home run for Troy put the Trojans in control early in game two with no outs in the first.
Quinn Breidenbach started the game in the circle for the Minutewomen, tossing four innings while allowing two earned runs before retiring the following seven batters after the homer.
Troy extended their lead to 4-0 with single runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Stavinoha's second home run of the weekend accounted for the lone UMass run in the contest, a solo shot over the wall in right to open the fourth. Stavinoha finished 2-of-3 at the plate to give her the third multi-hit game of the weekend.
Kenadee Rausch made her first collegiate appearance in the circle as she replaced Breidenbach to open up the fifth inning. Rausch finished her first outing by recording a pair of strikeouts while allowing one run in three innings of work.
The Minutewomen will wrap up the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom tomorrow morning with a doubleheader against Iowa and Providence beginning at 9 a.m.
