Brenner’s Pair Of Goals Guide The Minutemen Over Duquesne In Overtime, 2-1

Graham Brenner scored his second goal of the evening in the 106th-minute to give UMass the win.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Sophomore defender Graham Brenner netted the game-winning goal in the 106th-minute to send the Minutemen past Duquesne in overtime on Saturday evening 2-1. The Minutemen got a pair of goals from Brenner to rally back from down a goal after a penalty kick was awarded to Duquesne in the early moments of the second half.
UMass looked to respond after going down 1-0 on a Duquesne penalty in the 51st-minute scored by Manel Busquets after the Dukes were awarded a free kick on light contact up top from a Minuteman defender in the box.
Brenner nearly gave the Minutemen the equalizer just four minutes later, taking the contact from the Duquesne defender to get off a header that sailed just over the crossbar. Brenner converted on his first goal of the night moments later, heading a ball backwards into the left side of goal for the equalizer off a long throw-in from Ryan Saul.
The Minuteman attack kept pushing forward down the stretch in regulation, earning a solid opportunity at goal after an Evan Fournier cross found Quinn Serafino in the box for a twisting header that sailed right of goal. Fournier also came up with a key block defensively for the Minutemen late as UMass blocked away a pair of shots with under two minutes remaining in regulation.
Fournier went on to find the assist on the game-winning goal by Brenner, serving up a free kick from about 35-yards out to a running Brenner, who headed the ball into the right side of goal to send the Minutemen off with three points.
UMass will be back in action on Wednesday when they welcome in Rhode Island for a 2 p.m. kick-off at Rudd Field.
