EASTON, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts mens soccer program (3-3-1) bested/fell to Stonehill (2-3-2), 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon on Skyhawk Field.

UMass dominated on the offensive front, recording more shots (15-12), shots on goal (7-2) and corners (13-2).

Henry Hutchinson recorded his first goal wearing the Maroon and White, netting a left-footed strike in the 77th minute off a feed from Ivan Vrh. Sam Theiss (5), Shane Velez (3) and Thomas Wadas (2) each recorded multiple shots in the contest.

Dean Linden recorded his second clean sheet of the season, recording two saves in the match.

Breaking Down the Action

Stonehill opened the action with a corner kick in the third minute, but it was defended well by Rian Mulherin to keep the ball out of the box and result in a high Skyhawk shot.
Shane Velez perfectly hit a cutting Samuel Theiss in the 16th minute, leaving a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Theiss' shot caught the crossbar keeping the game knotted at zero.
Theiss recorded another shot on goal in the 18th minute, but found the awaiting hands of keeper Felix Van der Hagen.
Linden picked up his first save of the contest in the 25th minute in the center of the net.
Velez nearly landed a header attempt in the 32nd minute, but a diving save by Van der Hagen kept the contest scoreless.
A strong offensive push was capped off by a left footed strike on goal by Shun Murasawa resulted in another clean save by Van der Hagen in the 36th minute.
Andrea Pelamatti found the back of the net in the 42nd minute, but was deemed offsides, nulling the goal and keeping the contest scoreless.
Hutchinson opened the scoring in the second half, as a left-footed strike snuck into the net in the 54th minute.
Linden registered a diving save in the 77th minute, picking up his second save of the contest and keeping UMass ahead 1-0.
