Burlington, VT — The University of Massachusetts mens soccer program (4-5-1) dropped a contest to No. 12 Vermont (7-1-2), 3-0, on Tuesday evening at Virtue Field. Early goals and strong keeper play proved to be the catalyst for Vermont.
The Catamounts came out of the gates firing, netting two goals within the first six minutes of action.
Samuel Theiss recorded two shots on goal in the contest, nearly striking in the 30th minute but a diving save kept him off the board. Henry Hutchinson also was thwarted by a diving save in the third minute of the contest.
Despite the early goals, Dean Linden recorded four saves, all of which came in the second half.

Massachusetts opens Summit League play against Oral Roberts on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kick-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on MSP+.

- Theiss recorded the first shot of the second half in the 46th minute, but it found the awaiting hands of Herceg.
- Vermont added its third goal of the match in the 58th minute off a header.
- Vermont shut down Massachusetts defense in the final 44 minutes, holding the Minutemen without a shot.
