UMass Set To Host BC, Hartford For Midweek Contests

The Minutewomen will play host to Boston College on Wednesday at 4 before a doubleheader against Hartford on Thursday.

AMHERST, Mass. The University of Massachusetts softball team will host a pair of regional opponents this week at home on Sortino Field, beginning with a rematch against Boston College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before taking on Hartford with a Thursday doubleheader at 1 p.m. The Minutewomen (22-11 Overall, 11-0 Atlantic 10) head back into league play on Saturday at St. Bonaventure for a three-game series beginning at noon.
 
UMass heads into their midweek contests as winners of all eight games at Sortino Field this season, outscoring their opponents 60-10 after sweeping a doubleheader against Saint Louis over the weekend in which the Minutewomen held the Billikens without a single run. UMass batted .426 as a team against Saint Louis on their way to remaining perfect in league play, led by a pair of plus-.800 hitters in Melissa Garcia and Jena Cozza.
 
On the week, Cozza went 5-of-7 at the plate for a .714 average in three games on her way to being named the A-10 Player of the Week for the third time this season. The senior infielder extended her reached base streak to 29 straight games while bringing her season batting average and on-base percentage to nation-leading numbers of .521 and .654 respectively. The leadoff hitter also ranks at the top of all of Division I softball in runs scored per game while ranking in the top-five nationally in three other offensive categories.
 
Through 33 games this season, UMass owns a .319 team batting average behind five plus-.300 batters while outscoring their opponents by 100 runs. Erin Stacevicz ranks second on the team with a .374 average while Kaycee Carbone owns a .340 clip while ranking second in total bases and RBI with 35.
 
In the circle, Kiara Oliver moved to 12-3 after going 1-1 last week while eclipsing the 100-strikeout mark to give her a league-leading mark in strikeouts per seven innings with 7.2. Meg Colleran adds a perfect 5-0 mark in A-10 with a 0.98 ERA through seven appearances and six starts while Quinn Breidenbach has struck out 10 with no runs allowed in 10.0 innings of relieve in league competition.
 
The Minutewomen will get a rematch against Boston College (22-17 Overall) after falling to the Eagles 3-0 a week ago on their home field, snapping a 10-game UMass winning-streak in the process. UMass heads into Thursday's 1 p.m. doubleheader against Hartford (8-21 Overall) with a 22-1-1 record all-time versus the Hawks after the last meeting in 2013 saw the Minutewomen come away with an 8-0 win in five innings. Both of the contests against Hartford will be streamed live on the A-10 Digital Network.
 
UMass continues Atlantic 10 play over the weekend with a three-game road series in Olean, N.Y. against St. Bonaventure (8-24 Overall, 1-10 Atlantic 10), beginning on Saturday at noon on Joyce Field. The Minutewomen took two of three against St. Bonaventure in their last league meeting in 2016 on the road to bring the all-time series to 56-2 in favor of UMass.
