Minutewomen Drop Regular Season Finale at Dayton

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball fell to Dayton, 3-2, in its regular-season finale on Sunday. The Minutewomen finish at 26-22 overall and 13-6 in Atlantic 10 play. Seeding for the Atlantic 10 Tournament will be announced late Sunday.
Freshman Quinn Breidenbach started in the circle for the Minutewomen, pitching six full innings. She struck out four batters and gave up two earned runs and eight hits. Junior Meg Colleran came in to throw the final inning.
The Minutewomen were down 1-0 until the top of the sixth when sophomore Melissa Garcia reached on a single. Garcia scored to tie the game when freshman Madison Gimpl, 2-for-3 at the plate, reached base on a fielding error.
In the top of the seventh, senior Jena Cozza belted her fifth home run of the season to give UMass a 2-1 lead heading in to the Flyers' seventh frame. Dayton answered back and a two-run single won it for the home team.
