Carbone, UMass Take Win in Extras at Bryant

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball (25-20, 12-4 Atlantic 10) defeated Bryant, 6-4 (8), in Smithfield, Rhode Island on Tuesday. Sophomore Kaycee Carbone went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in four runs.
Freshman Quinn Breidenbach started in the circle for the Minutewomen pitching 3.2 innings. She gave up eight hits and four runs while striking out one batter. Junior right hander Meg Colleran (16-10) relieved Breidenbach, pitching 4.1 innings to earn the win. Colleran only allowed one hit and struck out six batters.
The Minutewomen took an early 1-0 lead thanks to an Erin Stacevicz run. The Bulldogs scored three in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Ashton Wince scored on a Bryant throwing error in the top of the sixth.
Carbone plated a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie the score at four. In the top of the eighth, she hit a single that scored another two runs, including the game winner.
