A-10 Play Continues at Rhode Island

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball (15-17, 4-2 A-10) travels for a doubleheader, Wed., April 12, at Rhode Island (6-22, 3-6 A-10). Game times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at URI Softball Complex.

A Look Back
The Minutewomen took two-of-three games at Saint Louis April 8-9. Games one (3-1) and two (4-2) went in UMass' favor. The Minutewomen fell to the Billikens, 1-0, on Sunday. Since March 11, UMass has won 12 of its last 15 games.

Atlantic 10 Roundup
Sitting in third in the league standings, Massachusetts ranks No. 2 in pitching with a combined 2.91 ERA. Freshman Candace Denis is No. 34 nationally and No. 2 in the Atlantic-10 in hits allowed per seven innings with 4.59. Her ERA (2.02) is also No. 4 among league hurlers. She's thrown 10 complete games and 90 innings, striking out 72 batters.

Junior Meg Colleran is No. 72 nationally and No. 3 in the conference in walks allowed per seven innings (1.42). Sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha leads the A-10 and ranks 48th nationally in sacrifice flies (three). The Minutewomen are 48-of-54 in stole base attempts to rank 53rd nationally and second in the A-10. Denis (20) and sophomore Erin Stacevicz (14) pace the squad.

In the circle, freshman Sarah Gunderson paces the squad with a 6.22 ERA, pitching 54.0 innings and striking out 26 batters. Junior Kylie Shivery leads the Rams' offense with a .363 batting average, picking up 29 hits, 14 RBI, three homeruns and 13 runs scored.

Denis (13, 10 complete games) and Colleran (16, 11 complete games) share the starts for UMass. Both have thrown two shutouts and total 90+ innings pitched.

Sophomores Kaycee Carbone, Kaitlyn Stavinoha and Erin Stacevicz pace the Minutewomen batting order. Stavinoha leads the team with a .366 batting average, 26 RBI and one home run. She has accumulated nine multi-hit games and leads the team with five multi-RBI games.

Carbone leads the team with her eight-straight on-base game streak and is riding a four-game hitting streak. She's No. 4 on the squad with a batting average of .272 and leads the team with two homeruns.
