Minutewomen Head to Aggie Invitational I

AMHERST, Mass. – Head coach Kristi Stefanoni and the University of Massachusetts softball team head to Davis, California for the Aggie Invitational I. Hosted March 10-12, the Minutewomen (3-12) will play five games in three days at La Rue Field.
UMass will open Friday with San Jose State and UC Davis at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET and 3:15 p.m. PT/6:15 p.m. ET, respectively. On Saturday, the Minutewomen face Seton Hall and UC Davis at 1:15 p.m. PT/4:15 p.m. ET and 3:15 p.m. PT/6:15 p.m. ET, respectively. Sunday will wrap with the Cyclones at 9:30 a.m. PT/12:30 p.m. ET.
A Look Back
The Minutewomen posted a 1-4 record at the Bulldog Slamboree, hosted by Mississippi State, last weekend. They put up 13 runs against Samford in a Saturday morning tilt before battling Central Arkansas in 11 innings Saturday night.
Atlantic 10 Roundup
As a squad, Massachusetts ranks No. 5 in the league in total hits with 98. Candace Denis' eight stolen bases and 2.08 ERA rank No. 3.
The Field
San Jose State sits at 11-9 after posting a 3-2 outing at San Diego Classic II. Katelyn Linford has started eight contests for the Spartans with a record of 6-2 and an ERA of 3.38. At the plate, Casey Watt has an on-base percentage of .459 with 18 hits and 11 runs scored.
UC Davis went 1-4 at the San Diego Classic and fell to Stanford, 9-5, on Wednesday to sit at 7-13 overall. Taylor Peters has collected 26 hits while stealing nine bases. In the circle, Katie Kibby and Andrea Reynolds are splitting the innings. Kibby's ERA of 3.24 leads the squad.
Iowa State went 1-4 at the St. George Red Desert Classic and sits at 8-11 overall. Savannah Sanders paces the Cyclones' pitching with an ERA of 2.82 in eight starts and 16 appearances. Kelsey MacFarland bats .482 with 27 hits and 13 runs scored.
Seton Hall is 8-5-1 after a 2-2, 10-inning tie at Sacramento State on Tuesday and a 2-3 outing at Pacific's Louisville Slugger Invitational. The Pirates boast one of the top offenses in the country, ranking top-25 nationally in runs per game (6.86, 15th), on-base percentage (.422, 20th) and slugging percentage (.520, 22nd) – each of those marks are best in the BIG EAST.
Freshman On Fire
Denis pitched three complete games, including an 11-inning marathon with Central Arkansas, and started two other contests at third base at the Bulldog Slamboree. In Saturday's two games, she struck out 16 batters in 15.1 innings pitched. She also had two RBI and two stolen bases over five games. On the season, she's 8-of-9 in stolen base attempts and bats .271 with 13 hits and 10 runs scored.
In The Circle
Denis paces the Minutewomen with 40.1 innings pitched and five complete games. She holds an ERA of 2.08 in seven appearances with six games started. Junior Meg Colleran has started seven games for a total of 33.1 inning pitched and a 6.72 ERA.
Sophomore Studs
Sophomores Kaycee Carbone, Kaitlyn Stavinoha and Erin Stacevicz are off to a strong start for the Minutewomen. Stavinoha leads the team with a .378 batting average, 13 RBI and one home run. She has four multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games.
Carbone has reached based in seven-straight games and has a five-game hitting streak in motion, both team leaders. She's No. 3 on the squad with a batting average of
Stacevicz's .352 batting average is good for No. 2 on the team with 19 hits and 10 runs scored (team leader). She has five multi-hit games and put together a nine-game hitting streak to open the season (Feb. 17-March 4).
