Schedule Change Sends Softball to GW

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball (10-14) travels to Washington, D.C. for a three-game set against George Washington (13-14) on April 1-2. Game times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
 
A Look Back
The Minutewomen are carrying a seven-game winning streak after picking up a double header sweep against Boston University, on March 30, at Sortino Field. UMass defeated the Terriers 6-4 in the first game and followed it up with a 3-1 victory.  
 
Atlantic 10 Roundup
Massachusetts ranks No. 3 in the league with five triples and No. 3 with 34 successful stolen bases. Freshman Candace Denis' .184 opposing batting average and 1.79 ERA rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the Atlantic 10, respectively.
 
The Competition
George Washington sits at 13-14 after posting an 0-3 outing against Dayton. In the circle, junior Sarah Costlow leads the squad with a 2.26 ERA, pitching 80.2 innings and striking out 33 batters. Freshman Jessica Linquist leads GW's offense with a .379 batting average, picking up 22 hits and 14 runs scored. Freshman Jenna Cone ranks No. 1 on the team with 32 hits, 12 homeruns, 36 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
 
Freshman On Fire
Denis was selected as a Co-Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 27-March 5 for her stellar performance at the Bulldog Slamboree. On the season, she's 17-of-18 in stolen base attempts and bats .269 with 21 hits, 19 runs scored, and seven RBI.
 
In The Circle
Denis paces the Minutewomen with 78.0 innings pitched and nine complete games. She holds an ERA of 1.79 in 12 appearances, with 11 games, started and is tied for third in the league for 65 strike outs. Junior Meg Colleran has started 11 games for a total of 61.1 innings pitched and a 4.22 ERA.
 
Sophomore Studs
Sophomores Kaycee Carbone, Kaitlyn Stavinoha and Erin Stacevicz are off to a strong start for the Minutewomen. Stavinoha leads the team with a .384 batting average, 19 RBI and one home run. She has seven multi-hit games and leads the team with four multi-RBI games.
 
Carbone leads the team with her seven-straight on-base game streak, and she also maintained a five-game hitting streak this season. She's No. 4 on the squad with a batting average of .243.
 
Stacevicz's .318 batting average is good for No. 2 on the team with 27 hits and 17 runs scored. She leads the team with seven multi-hit games and put together a nine-game hitting streak to open the season (Feb. 17-March 4).
