Men’s Lacrosse Claws Back For 10-8 Win Over UMass Lowell

Bogart, Muller combine for nine points; Smith stops 12 shots

HIGHLIGHTS
FIRST QUARTER
Massachusetts scored first on Tyler Bogart's game-opening strike as Bogart shifted between defenders and cut to the left pipe before he deposited a shot out of the reach of Grant Lardieri in the cage for the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell notched the next three goals, one each by Austin Lane, Brandon Luitwieler and Sean Tyrrell before Buddy Carr stopped the visiting team's run with his lone conversion of the day. Carr gathered a pass from Dom St. Laurent and scored with only 36 seconds left on the Garber Field scoreboard.
SECOND QUARTER
UMass Lowell held its lead throughout the frame as both sides traded scoring possessions. The Minutemen again scored in the final 60 seconds of the frame as Bogart earned his second of the day with 51 ticks to go.
Grant Consoletti also converted for Massachusetts in the stanza, his third of the year. UMass Lowell earned two goals from Jon Phillips while Tyrrell added his second of the day as the River Hawks took a 6-4 lead into the break.
THIRD QUARTER
After Keenan Koswin bumped the UMass Lowell lead back to three only 49 seconds into the third quarter, Massachusetts put in six of the last seven goals, including two in the third quarter.
Noah Rak recorded his first goal of the season when he won the faceoff following Koswin's goal, raced down field, battled through traffic near the cage and scored only six seconds later. Dan Muller made it back-to-back unassisted goals for the Minutemen at the 9:55 mark and UMass moved within one of UMass Lowell, 7-6.
Koswin kept the Minuteman third quarter rally at bay with his second of the afternoon, scored with 3:44 left in the third.
FOURTH QUARTER
UMass Lowell was unable to quell the UMass comeback as Massachusetts put in all four goals scored in the stanza.
The Minutemen started the fourth with a man-up situation after William Russo was called for slashing during the final play of the third quarter. Muller took advantage of the man-up situation for his eighth goal of the year 43 seconds in.
Muller's goal kick-started a series of back-and-forth conversions by the redshirt senior midfielder and Bogart as the scoring tandem alternated tallies the rest of the way.
Bogart knotted the game at 8-8 with 13:23 to go via St. Laurent's second assist. After nearly 12 minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Muller put Massachusetts ahead, 9-8 with a left side shot from 10 yards away that snuck inside the right post. Bogart iced the outcome unassisted with 20 seconds to go.
UP NEXT
Massachusetts makes the short trip south to Connecticut for a Sat., March 18 tilt at Hartford. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Tyler Bogart posted a game-high five points via four goals and one assist. It marked the sophomore's second consecutive game with four goals, which tied his career high.
- Dan Muller also netted a hat trick, with three goals to go along with one assist. Muller scored the eventual game-winning goal on a feed from Bogart with 97 seconds to play.
- D.J. Smith continued a streak of six consecutive games with double-digit saves as Smith finished the game against UMass Lowell with 12 stops. He had four each in the first and third quarters, three in the second and one in the fourth.
- Noah Rak won 12 of his 21 faceoffs (57.1 percent) and scooped up four groundballs. He added a goal in the third quarter, his first of the season.
- Massachusetts scored the final four goals and the game – and six of the last seven – for the comeback victory. UMass trailed by three (7-4) 49 seconds into the third quarter, but Muller (3), Bogart (2) and Rank (1) rallied the Minutemen back.
