Softball Drops Series Finale To Central Michigan 3-2

April 12, 2026 | Softball

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The University of  Massachusetts softball team (14-24, 6-12 MAC) dropped the final contest of a three game series against Central Michigan (20-16, 11-6 MAC). Despite five no-hit innings from Hannah Streicher to start the game, a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth proved to be all the Chippewas needed.

Odyssey Torres continued her dominant season with three hits in four trips, extending her hit streak to eight games. Riain Keefe, Brooke Musch, Lily Woodworth and Tiegan Walsh each recorded hits for the Minutewomen. Lillie Scheivert had the lone RBI for UMass.

The Minutewomen opened the game plating the first run of the contest. Consecutive one-out singles from Musch and Torres, and a stolen base from Torres put both runners in scoring position with one out. Scheivert lined out to centerfield, but the hit was deep enough to score Musch and give UMass a 1-0 advantage.

UMass added another run in the top of the fourth inning, as with two runners on, Walsh hit a bloop single to right field, and an errant throw scored one, extending the Massachusetts lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, after retiring 15 of 17 batters and allowing no hits, Streicher surrendered her first hit of the game. Another single put two runners on, and after forcing a foul pop out, Central Michigan's Jenna Kuzara homered to centerfield to swing the lead in the Chips' favor, 3-2.

The Minutewomen did not go down easy, as Keefe worked a leadoff single and Torres registered a base-hit through the left side. Scheivert walked to load the bases with one out, but CMU was able to force two outs and hold off the late Minutewomen charge.

Streicher (9-10) picked up the loss for UMass, allowing three runs on three hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Mackenzie Langan (7-8) picked up the win in a relief appearance, allowing two hits, two walks and three strikeouts  in 3.2 innings.

The Minutewomen return home to face Brown University on Tuesday, April 14 for an out of conference matchup at 4:00 p.m. on Sortino Field.
