March 31, 2026 | Softball
AMHERST, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts (10-9, 2-7 MAC) softball team bested Dartmouth College (5-13, 3-3 Ivy), 9-1, at Sortino Field on Tuesday. In the Minutewomen's first game on campus of the 2026 campaign, Lillie Scheivert belted a walk-off three run homer to lift UMass to victory.
Massachusetts offense was red-hot, totaling nine runs on 11 hits, including four extra base knocks. Odyssey Torres and Riain Keefe led the charge with three hits each, with Torres hitting a triple and recording three RBI's. Lillie Scheivert hit her first homerun as a Minutewoman, recording three RBI's on the game winning hit.
Hannah Streicher was a force in the circle, allowing just one run and six hits, striking out five over 6.0 innings.
Dartmouth opened the scoring in the contest, as after a leadoff base hit, Olivia Schramm doubled to take a 1-0 lead.
The Minutewomen responded in the bottom of the first, as Keefe opened the game with a single before a Torres triple to right center knotted the contest at one. Scheivert worked a walk and and Packard beat out an infield single to load the bases. Woodworth grounded out to first base, but was enough to score Torres from third and give the Minutewomen a 2-1 advantage after one inning.
UMass tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third. Torres and Scheivert hit consecutive singles, before Woodworth plated one with a double and an Angie Rama sacrifice fly scored one to take a 4-1 lead.
The contest stayed put until the bottom of the sixth inning, as a Riley Kairer fielders choice, Keefe single and Brooke Musch reaching on an error loaded the bases. Torres collected her third hit of the day with a double down the left line to score two, and giving UMass a 6-1 advantage.
Two pitches later, Scheivert turned on a fastball, belting a shot over the left center wall, giving the Minutewomen a 9-1 mercy victory.
Anna Fagan picked up the loss for the Big Green, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, two walks and one strikeout in 5.1 innings.
The Minutewomen return to action for a three-game homestand against Western Michigan, with a double header slated for Friday, April 3.
