Torres Blasts Two Homeruns As Softball Earns First MAC Win

It marked the first multi-home run game in Torres collegiate career. Torres is up to three home runs on the season, doubling her career total. The L.A. native finished the day 5-6 from the plate with three extra base hits.
The Minutewomen return to action for the final game of a three-game series against the Rockets on Saturday, March 20, at 11am at Boston College.
Game One
UMass 7, Toledo 6
In the opening game of the day, Torres led the way with two home runs, with Lillie Scheivert and Grace Colucci each adding two hits. Lily Woodworth and Riain Keefe each slapped a hot in the contest, with Riley Kairer, Torres and Colucci recording RBI's.
The Minutewomen got on the board first, as Torres worked a two out walk and later scored after consecutive singles from Scheivert and Kairer to take an early 1-0 lead.
Toledo responded quickly in the top of the second frame, knotting the game at one following consecutive singles and a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the second, UMass stayed hot, as Colucci singled, Eliana Raposo reached on an error and Riain Keefe walked to load the bases. In her second at bat of the day, Torres jumped on a 1-0 fastball, blasting a homer to left field and giving the Minutewomen a 5-1 lead.
The Rockets again responded with another run in the top of the third, as Eli Enriquez singled to lead off the inning, swiped second and third, and scored on an Audrey Miller single to bring the score to 5-2.
Woodworth opened the bottom of the third with a double to right center, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Olivia Packard. Colucci's second single of the afternoon plated Woodworth and extended the UMass lead to 6-2.
Over the next two innings of play, Toledo plated three in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6. Each program was sent down in order in the sixth to remain tied entering the seventh.
Hannah Streicher held off the Toledo offense, allowing just one hit and no runs to retain the stalemate. In the bottom of the seventh, Torres again connected with a 1-0 fastball, sending her second home run over the left field wall and walking the game off for the Minutewomen.
Hannah Streicher (4-7) picked up her first conference win of the season, allowing six runs on 11 hits, zero walks and two strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Mady Yackee (1-5) picked up the loss for the Rockets, allowing two runs on three hits in 4.1 relief innings.
Game Two
UMass 1, Toledo 9
Toledo exploded for 14 hits in game two to just five by the Minutewomen. Torres continued her hot day at the plate, going 3-3 with a double. Keefe added the other two hits for Massachusetts.
The game opened with a pitchers duel, with the first run not crossing home plate until the third. A Miller double for Toledo scored one, giving the Rockets an early 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Rocket lead ballooned to four, as Toledo scored four runs on five hits to take a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Toledo added another four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-0 lead.
The Minutewomen did not go down easy, as Torres opened the bottom of the sixth with a double to right center, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A Scheivert sacrifice fly was deep enough to plate Torres, bringing the score to 9-1 in favor of the Rockets.
Olivia Cutuli (2-1) picked up the loss for UMass, allowing five runs on eight hits, one walk and two strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Kelsey Blanchette entered in relief, allowing four runs on six hits in 1.0 innings. Katie McDonald (4-4) earned the win for Toledo, allowing just one run on five hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
