Softball Drops 10-6 Contest To Kent State
March 14, 2026 | Softball
The trio of Lillie Scheivert, Olivia Packard and Eliana Raposo each recorded two hits for UMass, with Scheivert and Raposo each plating two runners. With her performance, Raposo has recorded two hits and two RBI's in back-to-back games.
Massachusetts opened the game threatening to score, loading the bases with two outs after an Odyssey Torres double, Scheivert hit by pitch and Riley Kairer walk, but a fly out to center squandered the opportunity.
Kent State opened the scoring in the bottom half of the opening frame with three consecutive hits to plate two runs and take an early 2-0 lead.
UMass responded with three consecutive hits of its own to score one in the top of the second, before a Scheivert single to right field scored two more, giving the Minutewomen a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Flashes came back with a four run inning off four hits to regain the lead, 6-3, after two innings of play. The lead reached six for Kent State after scoring three more in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 9-3 advantage.
Brooke Musch orchestrated a run on the base paths, stealing second and third after drawing a walk, and later scoring on an error to bring the contest to 9-4.
A solo homer in the bottom of the sixth ballooned the Golden Flash lead to 10-4.
The Minutewomen did not go down easy, as a Grace Colucci fielders choice scored one, and a Raposo single in the following at bat scored another run to cut the deficit to 10-6, but ultimately was the final run of the game.
Hannah Streicher (3-7) picked up the loss for the Minutewomen, allowing six runs on six hits in 2.0 innings. Olivia Cutuli and Kelsey Blanchette entered in relief, combining for five hits, four runs one walk and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Meadow Ferri (2-2) picked up the win for Kent State, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
