Softball Falls To Jacksonville University During Saturday Doubleheader

February 07, 2026 | Softball

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of Massachusetts softball dropped both doubleheader contests against Jacksonville on Saturday at Debbie & Fred Pruitt Softball Complex. Jacksonville earned an 13-1 win in game one of the day, and an 8-0 victory in game two of the second day of the River City Leadoff.

UMass opens the season at 0-4 overall on the season, while North Florida moves to 3-1 overall.

Massachusetts returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 8 with a matchup against Colgate  at 10:00 a.m.

Game 1
Jacksonville 13, Massachusetts 1

In Massachusetts opening contest of the day, the trio of Riain Keefe, Lillie Scheivert and Tiegan Walsh had one hit each, with Scheivert plating the first Minutwomen run of the season. Brooke Musch, Lilly Woodworth and Sofia Thormeyer worked walks in the contest, and Musch swiped her second bag of the season.

The Minutewomen opened the game with a quick start, as Keefe beat out an infield single, and advanced to third following a wild pitch and groundout. Schievert plated Keefe with a single to right field, putting UMass on the board first. In the bottom of the frame, Hannah Streicher worked her way out of a bases-loaded, one-out situation to keep the Minutewomen ahead 1-0 after one inning.

Following a two-inning stalemate where the programs combined for just two baserunners, Jacksonville exploded in the bottom of the third, tallying eight runs on six hits, taking a commanding 8-1 lead.

The floodgates continued to flow for the Dolphins, as they scored five more runs in the bottom of the fifth on six hits, extending the Jacksonville lead to 13-1. Despite a single from Walsh and throwing error on the ensuing at-bat from Thormeyer to place both runners in scoring position, the Minutemen were unable to capitalize and enact the run rule, falling  13-1 after five.

Hannah Streicher (0-2) had the loss for the Minutewomen, allowing five runs (all earned) on five hits and walking two over 2.1 innings. Jordan White (2-0) received the win for the Dolphins, allowing one run on three hits, walked three and struck out three over five innings of work.

Game 2
Jacksonville 8, Massachusetts 0

In the second matchup of the day, Musch, Keefe and Scheivert all added hits, with Musch going 2-3 on the day. Katharine Heslin worked a walk, and Musch swiper her third bag of season. Walsh also added a stolen base.

Massachusetts once again opened with a promising first inning, as after Heslin secured a two-out walk, Scheivert smashed her third hit of the season. Trying to extend to third base, however, Heslin was thrown out, ending the top of the opening frame.

The Dolphins picked up where they left off in the first game, plating two runs in the bottom of the frame on a bloop and blast from Jacksonville's Emma Mansfield and Kate Linkletter.

Jacksonville added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 6-0 lead into the fifth inning.

Massachusetts opened the top of the sixth with consecutive singles, but a double play tarnished the scoring opportunity. The Dolphins responded with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game by run rule, 8-0.

Kelsey Blanchette (0-2) had the loss for the Minutewomen, allowing eight runs (all earned) on 12 hits and walking four and striking over 5.1 innings. Jacy Harrelson (1-1) received the win for the Dolphins, allowing no runs on two hits, walked one and struck out one over five innings of work.
