April 05, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
AMHERST, Mass. – No. 16 Massachusetts men's lacrosse held an early advantage, but a 6-0 run helped carry High Point past UMass, 14-9 on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. The loss leaves the Gorillas at 8-3 overall, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while the Panthers improve to 5-6, 2-0 in conference play.
Freshman Robbie Granara was the lone UMass player to post multiple goals as he registered a hat trick. Senior Trace Hogan followed with three points with a goal and two assists and three ground balls. Juniors Aiden Drunsic and Brian Jackman logged a goal and an assist apiece.
Carson Robins led the way for High Point with six points on three goals and three assists. Ryan Hynes scored four and Collin Robere dished four assists and Owen Bunten added two tallies.
John Krisch opened up the scoring at the 9:22 mark of the first off a feed from Jackman, only two be answered by three straight goals from the Panthers. UMass responded with the next three scores to pull back in front, but Ian Cann began a stretch of six straight goals for the Panthers that carried into the third quarter and was part of an 8-1 high point run.
Tallies from Granara and Drunsic closed the gap to 11-7 heading in to the fourth, but that would be as close as the Gorillas would come in the remainder of the contest.
High Point ended the day with a 34-29 shot advantage and won the ground ball battle, 34-14. UMass was 1-for-1 in extra man opportunities and killed off the one man down situation it faced.
Freshman Owen Salanger totaled 12 saves for the Gorillas and Zack Overend had nine stops for the Panthers.
The Gorillas will return to action next Saturday, April 12, when the squad will play host to St. Bonaventure at noon on Garber Field.
