Woodworth Walks it Off for UMass, Best Skyhawks 3-2 in Extra Innings

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Minutewomen (12-32, 4-15 A-10) snapped its losing skid in electric fashion on Wednesday, overcoming Stonehill (14-34, 5-14 NEC) in extra innings via walk-off home run courtesy of freshman infielder Lily Woodworth.
UMass got on the board early, as RBI singles from Brooke Musch and Sophia Thormeyer helped the Minutewomen jump out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame. The Skyhawks would answer with two runs in the sixth inning off a sacrifice fly and an RBI double to even the score heading into the bottom half of the inning. A Thormeyer single and walk by Lydia Castro put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and the score still level. Odyssey Torres ripped a line drive down the right field line, however a diving effort by Stonehill's Schoonmaker forced the game into extra innings. Following a 1-2-3 inning by the UMass defense, it would only take one pitch in the bottom of the eighth to decide the game as Woodworth sent her first-career home run over the right field wall to walk it off for the Minutewomen in a 3-2 decision.
Julianne Bolton threw all eight inning in a workhorse effort from the Senior, striking out five batters. The trio of freshman, Woodworth, Musch, and Thormeyer, led the offensive front with two hits each. Riley Kairer, Taylor Richardson, and Odyssey Torres tallied base hits for the Minutewomen to round out the production at the plate.

Massachusetts hosts Saint Louis on Friday and Saturday, May 2nd-3rd. Friday's doubleheader is slated to begin at Noon, as well as the season finale on Saturday. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
