Minutewomen Surrender Game One to Rams on Friday, 6-3

BRONX, N.Y. -- Massachusetts (11-30, 4-13 A-10) dropped the opening game of its three-game series against Fordham (23-23, 13-8 A-10) on Friday, dropping a 6-3 decision on the road.
The Rams got on the board first, scoring runs in the first and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Sophia Thormeyer responded in the top of the fourth for the Minutewomen, singling through the right side of the field to bring home Keagy and make it a one-run game. Lydia Castro flashed her power at the plate in the following inning, sending a two-run home run as she joined Riley Kairer in crossing home plate to give UMass a 3-2 lead. Fordham answered in the bottom half of the fifth, tacking on three runs to retake the lead. The Rams would extend the lead to three in the sixth inning off an RBI single. Massachusetts loaded the bases in the sixth, and had a runner in scoring position in the seventh via a double by Castro, however were unable to even the score as Fordham closed the game out in the final frame.
Castro, Kairer, and Angie Rama led the Minutewomen offense with two hits each. Lily Woodworth, Odyssey Torres, Sarah Keagy, and Thormeyer each tallied base hits as well. Julianne Bolton threw all seven innings for UMass, striking out two batters.
