AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts softball team (5-10) travels to Troy, Ala. for a four-game series against the Trojans (12-9) from Mar. 7 to Mar. 9.
Last Time Out
Massachusetts (5-10) fell to DePaul (7-6) in a 4-2 loss at the UNCW Tournament on Sunday morning. Lily Woodworth led the UMass offense with two hits, while Riley Kairer and Odyssey Torres contributed RBI singles. The Minutewomen tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning, but DePaul responded with runs in the fourth and sixth to regain the lead. Despite putting the ball in play in the seventh, UMass couldn't complete the comeback. Hannah Streicher pitched all six innings, recording three strikeouts.
Scouting the Field
The Trojans are looking to bounce back from a 2-12 loss to #17 Auburn on Wednesday following a 3-2 showing at the Forida Tournament. Troy claimed victories over Western Michigan and Florida A&M in its previous tournament appearance, falling to Florida and Samford. In the previous tournament, Troy wrapped up the South Florida Showdown with a split, defeating Kent State 6-4 before falling to South Florida 10-8. Against Kent State, Reaghan Oney went 4-for-4, and Cassidy Boltz hit a home run, while Esmee Ames secured the win in relief. In the loss to South Florida, Troy's offense shined with home runs from Boltz and Sissy Dunn, but a five-run fourth inning by USF proved too much to overcome. Boltz homered in both games, highlighting Troy's strong offensive showing.The Trojans bat .326 as a team, tallying 118 runs and 17 home runs so far this year. The pitching staff posts a 4.48 ERA, recording 108 strikeouts while opponents bat .287.
