Softball Unable to Complete Sweep Over George Mason on Sunday
March 30, 2025 | Softball
FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Minutewomen's (8-22, 3-6 A-10) comeback effort fell just short on Sunday, dropping the final game of the series against George Mason (14-20, 6-3 A-10) in a 3-2 decision. Massachusetts walks away with the series win, taking the first two games on Saturday.
The UMass offense was rolling throughout the game, with eight different players tallying hits to out-hit the Patriots 10-2. Massachusetts struggled to bring base runners home, leaving the bases loaded twice and a total of 13 runners left on. George Mason would score the only three base runners it had all game in the third, as a three-run home run surged the Patriots out to a 3-0 advantage. Sophia Thormeyer would break the drought for UMass, scoring Brooke Musch off an RBI single up the middle. Odyssey Torres gave the Minutewomen some life in the final frame, blasting her second home run of the series to cut the deficit to one run. Despite getting the tying run on base, Massachusetts was unable to reproduce its comeback magic from Saturday as George Mason took the 3-2 victory. Natalee Horton threw 2.2 innings in her first start of the weekend, striking out two batters. Julianne Bolton pitched 3.1 innings of relief, tallying two strikeouts as well.
