Women’s Lacrosse Set For In-State Matchup At UMass Lowell

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team breaks from league action for an in-state matchup at UMass Lowell on Tuesday. The Minutewomen and the River Hawks begin play at 3:30 p.m. on Cushing Field.
Last Time Out
UMass picked up a 20-7 win at Duquesne on Saturday to mark the sixth straight win for the Minutewomen to begin Atlantic 10 play. Charlotte Wilmoth recorded new career-highs in both goals with seven and points with 10 while Kassidy Morris added a hat trick to go along with two assists. Jordan Dean led the UMass draw control unit with 14 draw controls while Audra Tosone and Caroline Whelan each caused a pair of turnovers.
Series History
Tuesday's game marks the sixth all-time matchup between UMass and UMass Lowell dating back to the first contest during the 2015 season. UMass leads the all-time series with a 5-0 record and picked up a 16-7 win over the River Hawks last season in Amherst.
The Century Mark
Audra Tosone became the second Minutewoman in program history to reached 100 caused turnovers for her career as she finished with a pair in UMass' 20-7 win at Duquesne on Saturday. The graduate has caused 100 turnovers for her career and is 16 away from setting a new program-best mark. Tosone secured four ground balls to go along with three draw controls as the UMass defense held a league opponent under 10 goals for the fourth time in six games.
Char's Career Day
Charlotte Wilmoth tallied new career-highs in both goals with seven and points with 10 as the Minutewomen picked up their sixth straight win with a 20-7 victory at Duquesne on Saturday. Wilmoth completed her fourth consecutive hat trick in the second quarter and extended her streak of four or more goals to four. The senior added four more goals in the third quarter and finished the afternoon by putting 9-of-12 shots on target with a caused turnover and ground ball.
Quick Draw
Jordan Dean enters the new week as the Division I and Atlantic 10 leader in draw controls per game at 12.90. The junior has reached double-digits in draw controls in 9-of-11 games this season, including posting back-to-back career-high 19 draw controls at La Salle and against St. Bonaventure. Dean currently ranks second all-time at UMass in career draw controls with 337 and trails Caitlyn Petro's (2018-21) 394 for most all-time.
20-20 Vision
The Minutewomen racked up 20 goals for the fourth time in six Atlantic 10 contests in a 20-7 win at Duquesne on Saturday. UMass posted a season-high 21 goals in a win over St. Bonaventure and had 11 different goal scorers find the back of the net in the win while 12 different players scored at La Salle.
Helping Hand
Fiona McGowan moved to sixth all-time at UMass in career assists with 107, passing Cari Nickerson's (1977-80) 106 with three assists at Duquesne. McGowan needs five more assists to pass Haley Connaughton (111, 2018-22) for fifth all-time while Erika Eipp (2014-16) ranks fourth all-time with 114. The graduate ranks fifth among Division I leaders in assists per game at 3.30 and ranks 12th nationally in total assists with 33.
Time Update
Saturday's game at Garber Field against VCU will now begin at noon after originally being scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
Looking Ahead
UMass has just four games remaining on the regular season schedule after Tuesday's midweek matchup. The Minutewomen host VCU on Saturday at noon and welcome in non-conference opponent UConn on Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. UMass hosts George Washington on Saturday, April 20 at 3 p.m. for the final regular season game on Garber Field and conclude regular season action at Richmond on April 27.
A-10 Championship
The 2024 Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held on May 2-5 in Pittsburgh, Pa. at Duquesne. The no. 3 through no. 6-seeds open action on Thursday, May 2 with the semifinals set for the next day. The A-10 Championship game will be played on Sunday, May 5 at noon.
