Minutewomen Pull Away From River Hawks, 18-9

The Minutewomen scored 15 consecutive goals, led by a combined 10 from Ava Connaughton, Kassidy Morris, and Charlotte Wilmoth.
LOWELL, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team answered a three-goal deficit with 15 consecutive goals in an 18-9 win at UMass Lowell on Tuesday evening at Cushing Field. The Minutewomen trailed 4-1 late in the second quarter before netting four straight goals to end the half while outscoring the River Hawks 11-0 in the third.

Charlotte Wilmoth led the way for UMass with eight points on four goals and four assists, including the first goal of the day for the Minutewomen with 9:36 to go in the first with UMass Lowell leading 2-1. The River Hawks held a 3-1 advantage heading into the second quarter.

After falling behind 4-1 with 6:36 to go in the opening half, Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw netted her first of two goals on the afternoon to jumpstart a stretch of 15 unanswered goals for the Minutewomen. UMass scored four goals in 3:13 of game time in the second, with Tessa Shields converting on a woman-up goal to bring the Minutewomen within a goal at 4:29. Wilmoth found Lauren Tolve for her first of two goals in the game to tie it at 4-4 before Kassidy Morris scored off a Fiona McGowan assist to give UMass a 5-4 advantage at the halftime break. Morris finished with her 10th hat trick of the season and moved to 40 goals on the year.

The Minutewomen outscored the River Hawks 11-0 in the third quarter behind five different goal scorers with Ava Connaughton picking up a hat trick in the frame to mark her second of her career. UMass scored eight goals in the opening six minutes of the quarter to build a 13-4 advantage. Skylar Simmonds and Wilmoth both added a pair of goals in the quarter while Wilmoth recorded four of her eight points during the 15-minute span, including back-to-back goals down the stretch to make it a 16-4 contest heading into the final quarter.

Wilmoth netted two more in the fourth quarter, adding her final goal of the evening with 8:28 to go to make it an 18-6 game and mark her fifth consecutive game with four or more goals. McGowan assisted on both goals for the Minutewomen to finish the day with five assists while moving past Haley Connaughton for fifth all-time in career assists with 112.

Jordan Dean tied her career-high in draw controls for the second time, finishing with 19 for a UMass draw unit that posted a 26-4 advantage in the game. UMass outshot UMass Lowell 40-23 and put 31-of-40 attempts on target.

The Minutewomen return home to Garber Field on Saturday for a noon matchup against VCU and remain at home to take on UConn on Wednesday, April 17 and George Washington on Saturday, April 20.
