Minutewomen Advance to Championship Saturday with 14-5 Win Over Robert Morris
April 30, 2026 | Women's Lacrosse
AMHERST, Mass. – The Massachusetts women's lacrosse team opened the game on an 8-0 run and closed by scoring five of the final six goals as the top-seeded Minutewomen defeated Robert Morris, 14-5 in the MAC Semifinals on Thursday. UMass held a dominant 40-11 edge in shots, on the way to its 11th straight victory.
With the win, the Minutewomen improve to 15-2 and will face second-seeded Akron in the MAC Championship Game on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. on ESPN+. It will mark UMass' second consecutive conference championship game, after playing and winning the Atlantic 10 final last season.
"We started super strongly," said head coach Jana Drummond. "They were playing so free and loose. It was really important for us to keep that for the full 60 minutes. Defensively, we were playing together. We had some moments when we forgot top personnel. If we just tune that in and every moment, be on top of it, we'll be in a great spot."
Kassidy Morris led the offense with four goals and five points to reach 96 points on the season (67 goals, 29 assists), which is good for fourth in program history in a season. Dylan Lyons had two goals and an assist, extending her streak to 12 straight multi-goal games. Ava Connaughton added two goals.
Defensively, Marisa Gatz had three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Katie Onderdonk caused two turnovers while scoring two goals as well in a stellar effort on both sides of the field.
Katie Peterson opened the scoring at 10:35 of the first quarter on a free position shot. Onderdonk followed just over a minute layer with a highlight-reel backhand, no-look score to the top corner for a 2-0 lead. Kassidy Morris followed with two goals in exactly two minutes.
That score held until goals from Brigid Manning and Sienna Diglio in the second. Diglio's featured a caused turnover and groundball on one end, then she carried it all the way into the offensive zone where she finished her second of the season for an 8-0 lead at the 3:24 mark.
Robert Morris pulled within 8-1 at the half, then 8-3 late in the third. Morris ended more than a 17-minute UMass scoreless drought for a 9-3 lead heading to the fourth.
The Colonials got as close as 9-4, but the Minutewomen answered with five of the final six goals, with Lyons scoring twice in that stretch, for the 14-5 final.
Final shots were 40-11 in favor of UMass, with the Minutewomen holding a 21-14 edge in groundballs. Robert Morris had 19 turnovers to just nine for UMass. The Minutewomen held a 16-6 edge in draw controls, led by 12 from Cate Marshall, her eighth game this season (and fifth straight) in double figures. Bayley Duffy made two saves in goal.
The Minutewomen return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the MAC Championship Game against Akron, in a game to be played at Robert Morris.
