UMass Claims Sixth Straight Win With 20-7 Victory At Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team won its sixth straight game on Saturday with a 20-7 win over Duquesne at Rooney Field. The game marked the fourth 20-plus goal game for the Minutewomen (7-4 Overall, 6-0 Atlantic 10) in the last six games to begin league play.

Charlotte Wilmoth netted a career-high seven goals on a career-best 10 points to lead the UMass offense while Kassidy Morris picked up her ninth hat trick of the season. Audra Tosone picked up a pair of caused turnovers to become the second Minutewoman in program history to reach 100 for her career.

The pair of Wilmoth and Morris each recorded three points in the opening frame, with Wilmoth finding Morris for the game's first goal at the 11:32 mark. After Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw scored her first of two goals on the day, Wilmoth found Morris once again to make it 3-0 with 7:26 to go in the first. Fiona McGowan finished with three assists to go along with two goals, grabbing her first point of the day with an assist to Wilmoth to make it 4-0. Morris added her third point of the quarter with an assist to Tessa Shields with just under four to play.

The Minutewomen outscored the Dukes 8-1 in the second quarter behind five different goal scorers, with Ava Connaughton posting the first of the quarter just over 90 seconds into action. Shields added her second goal moments later before back-to-back Wilmoth goals secured her fourth straight hat trick and made it 9-1 with 9:34 to go in the half. McGowan posted both of her goals in a 21-second span late in the second, scoring at the 2:13 and 1:52 marks before Morris completed her hat trick with under a minute to go to make it 13-2 at the break.

Wilmoth kept it going with four goals in the third quarter to reach her career-high in goals and points, scoring 80 seconds into the new half before assisting on a Skylar Simmonds goal to bring the count to 15-2 at the 10:44 mark. Wilmoth put home three consecutive goals in the final 6:22 of the third quarter, including a pair off assists from Charlotte Clavelli as Clavelli posted four on the day.

Norah Prizzi picked up two points in the fourth quarter as she netted her second goal of the year off a Clavelli assist at the 12:23 mark before assisting on a Bridget Valentine goal with 10:41 to go for the final UMass score of the afternoon.

Jordan Dean led a UMass draw unit that finished with a 21-8 advantage with a game-high 14 draw controls to mark her ninth double-digit performance this season. UMass caused 13 turnovers on the day, led by two each from Tosone and Caroline Whelan. Catrina Tobin led a trio of UMass goalies between the pipes with five saves and a .714 save percentage in 30 minutes of action.

The Minutewomen break from conference play on Tuesday to take on UMass Lowell on the road at 3:30 p.m. before returning home to host league foe VCU on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Garber Field.
