Minutewomen Splits Midweek Doubleheader With Rhode Island

KINGSTON, RI. -- Massachusetts (13-31, 9-11 A-10) split two games in a midweek doubleheader against Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island (13-33, 8-12) on Wednesday afternoon in Kingston. 
 
Massachusetts led most of the way but dropped a narrow 3-2 game to Rhode Island in game one of the afternoon. The Minutewomen controlled much the action offensively, as Grace Cadden and Odyssey Torres each record an RBI to give the UMass a 2-0 advantage after six innings in Kingston. Julianne Bolton was dominant in her 21st start of the season, allowing just four hits while striking out five across 6.2 innings in the circle. The junior held a no-hitter going into the final frame, however the Rams were able to edge out the walk-off victory in the bottom half of the seventh.

The Minutewomen claimed the second game, securing a 5-2 win to close the day in Kingston. Massachusetts showcased a well-rounded performance offensively, scoring five runs on eight hits. Senior Bella Pantoja and Junior Grace Cadden led the team with two hits and an RBI apiece. Massachusetts never trailed in game two, utilizing two-run innings in the third and sixth frames to power the win. Freshman Hannah Streicher earned her sixth start and second win of the season, allowing just four hits over 4.0 innings in the circle. Sophomore Natalee Horton pitched 3.0 innings in relief, striking out three batters while securing the save.
