Massachusetts Men's Lacrosse Rolls To 15-3 Win At St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse had 12 players record at least one point in a 15-3 victory at St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Gorillas improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while the Bonnies drop to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in league action.

Mike Tobin paced UMass with four points, registering three goals and an assist, his sixth hat trick in eight career A-10 games. Conor Foley contributed three points on two goals and an assist, Matt Cargiulo and Grant Breyo both scored twice and Aiden Drunsic and Anthony Sericolo added a goal and an assist apiece as 10 Gorillas scored at least one goal on the day. Over X, Caleb Hammett went 11-for-18 (.611) and grabbed a team-best eight ground balls and Jack Wittmaack picked up four ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers and an assist.

For St. Bonaventure, Drew Kenney scored twice and Kellen Pulera provided the team's other tally.

Pulera opened the scoring with 10:39 to play in the first to give the Bonnies an early 1-0 lead in the contest, but a Breyo goal at 9:37 sparked a 4-0 run for UMass. With the Gorillas holding a 1-0 advantage, Kenney closed the gap to two at 4-2, but Sericolo answered to put the Maroon & White up by three at the break, 5-2.

The teams traded goals to begin the third quarter, but UMass put the game away by scoring the final nine goals of the day.
 
The Gorillas out-shot the Bonnies 46-28 on the afternoon and won the ground ball battle, 37-17. UMass went 1-for-3 in man-up opportunities and killed off both man-down situations it faced.

Matt Knote totaled 11 saves in 57 minutes of action, while Ryan Mazzariello made one save over 1:51 in his collegiate debut. Cristofero Cucciuffo had 18 stops in the cage for St. Bonaventure.

The Gorillas will be back in action next Saturday, April 20 when the squad hosts #19/18 Richmond at noon on Garber Field.
