Minutewomen Sweep Friday Doubleheader Over St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, NY. -- Massachusetts (9-21, 5-3 A-10) claimed two victories over St. Bonaventure (2-19, 1-7) sweeping Atlantic 10 doubleheader action on Friday afternoon at Joyce Field.
 
Massachusetts took care of business in game one, claiming a 9-5 victory to start the weekend in Olean NY. Sophomore Natalee Horton earned her 10th start, pitching a complete game while tallying a season-high 10 strikeouts. The Minutewomen offense was firing on all cylinders with five different batters recording an RBI in the first matchup of the day. Senior Abby Packard led the team with three base knocks, as Massachusetts tied a season-high with 11 total hits. 

Game two was all Massachusetts, as the Minutewomen rolled to a 12-0 victory in five innings. Junior Julianne Bolton pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit over five innings in the circle. Massachusetts claimed an early advantage, plating six runs in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead they would not relinquish. Senior Sarah Keagy blasted her team-high sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the top of the second inning. Junior Grace Cadden also got in on the home run party, recording a lead-off solo blast in the top of the third inning. Chloe Whittier recorded two hits in game two, leading the Minutewomen.

  • 1: Bolton pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit over five innings.
  • 1: Freshman Riley Kairer recorded her first career RBI, off her second career hit.
  • 2: Keagy Recorded two home runs on the day, totaling five RBIs between the two games.

  • 10: Horton tallied a season high 10 strikeouts in game one. 
  • 11: Massachusetts tied a season-high with 11 hits in game one.
