Massachusetts Softball Defeated By George Washington, 7-2

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to the George Washington Colonials on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field by a score of 7-2. The Minutewomen now sit at 16-31 on the season and 6-16 in conference play, while the Colonials improve to 17-26 on the season and 7-16 in conference play.
Jules Shields opened scoring in the first inning when she hit an RBI double to left center that brought Giana Wameling home. In the third inning, the Colonials tallied two runs to take the lead. George Washington tacked on another run in the fifth inning.
Bella Pantoja scored the final run of the day for UMass, hitting an RBI double up the middle, scoring Chloe Whittier. The Colonials then added four runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Jessie DiPasquale threw all 7.0 innings of the contest, logging a strikeout and allowing six hits on the day.
The Minutewomen will play their final home contest of the season on Wednesday, May 3 against Merrimack College before heading to George Mason for the final three game series of the regular season.
