Massachusetts Softball Wraps Up Dugout Club Classic With 8-3 Win Over Colgate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Massachusetts softball team ended their slate at the Dugout Club Classic on Sunday, defeating Colgate by a score of 8 to 3. The Minutewomen now sit at 5-9 on the season, while Colgate falls to a 6-12 record.
Massachusetts opened up the first inning with a pair of runs to take the early lead. With the bases loaded, Sarah Keagy walked, allowing Bella Pantoja to reach home. Jules Shields then hit an RBI single to let Giana Wameling plate a run.
UMass resumed scoring in the fourth when Pantoja hit an RBI single to get Jordyn Graime home. Right after, Abby Packard stole home to extend the Minutewoman lead to four.
The Raiders responded with a run of their own at the bottom of the fourth when Steph Jacoby singled through the right side to allow Adrienne Nardone to reach home.
The Minutewomen continued their scoring in the top of the fifth. Julianne Bolton hit a 2 RBI single to bring Keagy and Shields home before Grace Cadden tallied one of her own.
Colgate added another run at the bottom of the sixth when Nardone hit an RBI single to send Rachel Carney home.
A. Packard scored the last UMass run of the day at the top of the seventh off an Emily Whelan RBI double. Colgate looked to respond when Quinn Livesay scored at the bottom of the seventh, but could not complete the comeback.
Bolton was on the mound for Massachusetts, recording six strikeouts and allowing two earned runs in 7.0 innings pitched.
The Minutewomen wrap up tournament action next weekend as they head to the Purple-Gold Invitational at East Carolina on Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12 to play two contests against East Carolina and two against Norfolk State.
