Softball Falls To Ohio State, #22 USF

The Minutewomen open Atlantic 10 play next weekend at Rhode Island.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Massachusetts softball team fell to Ohio State and No. 22-ranked South Florida on the third and final day of action in Tampa on Sunday. The Minutewomen open Atlantic 10 play next weekend with three games on the road at Rhode Island.
Game 1 – Ohio State 8, UMass 0 (5 inn.)
UMass was held without a hit in the opening game of the day against Ohio State. The Minutewomen put runners on in the second and fourth innings, including moving Payge Suggs into scoring position in the fourth after a leadoff walk.
Ohio State plated four runs on four hits in the first inning and added a run in the second and three in the fourth to make it an 8-0 contest. In the circle for the Buckeyes, Emily Ruck tossed all five innings and struck out 11. For the Minutewomen, Jenna Bradley threw two innings while Kali Puppolo closed out the game with a pair of innings in the circle.
Game 2 - #22 USF 8, UMass 0 (5 inn.)
Bella Pantoja started the game off with a leadoff single on a hot shot to third base and moved into scoring position on a USF throwing error.
Jessie DiPasquale threw 3.2 innings for the Minutewomen with a strikeout and kept the Bulls without a hit for the first two innings of play.
USF took advantage of a leadoff walk in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead after one played. The Bulls used a six-run third inning to go ahead 7-0 with the help of three two-RBI base hits, started by Megan Pierro's two-RBI base hit.
In the circle for the Bulls, Georgina Corrick threw all five innings and struck out seven.
