Minutewomen Play To 1-1 Draw Against Merrimack

Ashley Lamond scored to tie the game in the 75th-minute for the Minutewomen.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw in double overtime against Merrimack on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutewomen (3-2-1 Overall) remained unbeaten in their last four contests with three wins to go along with today's draw.
Merrimack struck first in the 31st-minute on a Molly Murnane goal as Murnane struck the ball with her right foot from the left side of the field and found the far corner of net for the goal.
Ashley Lamond nearly came up with the equalizer in the 48th-minute after an Olivia Gouldsbury cross found its way to Lamond at the far post, who played a right-footed shot to the left side of goal that was saved away on the dive by Merrimack keeper Michele Silva. Silva finished with a game-high six saves while Megan Olszewski finished with three for UMass.
Lamond went on to score her first collegiate goal in the 75th-minute to bring the Minutewomen even at 1-1. Lamond played her shot after a Merrimack defender deflected the ball off their keeper and into Lamond's left foot for a shot into the left side of goal. Lamond finished with three shots and two shots on target.
The Minutewomen held a 22-12 shot advantage in the match and earned 13 corners for the day, led by five shots from Chandler Pedolzky and three from Lamond, Gouldsbury, and Karina Groff. Groff added two shots on target for a UMass squad that put seven of its 22 shots on frame.
UMass continues non-conference action next Sunday, Sept. 12 at Northeastern with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
