Dickson’s First Half Brace Guides Women’s Soccer To 2-0 Victory Over Buffalo

October 09, 2025 | Women's Soccer

Caroline Dickson recorded a career-high two goals and a career-best five shots.

AMHERST, Mass. – Junior forward Caroline Dickson scored two goals 58 seconds apart in the first half, marking her first career brace, aided the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Buffalo at Rudd Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Minutewomen improved to 5-5-2 overall, including 3-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Bulls moved to 9-3-1 on the year and 5-2-0 in conference action.

After a quiet 43 minutes, UMass got on the board first to make it a 1-0 contest. Peyton Costello dribbled the ball just outside the 18-yard box, before passing it into open space in the box. Dickson corralled the ball and sailed it to the bottom right of the net for her first goal of the season.

Fifty-eight seconds later, Costello received the ball on a throw-in before quickly passing it to Dickson. Dickson dribbled the ball to the top of the box, firing a shot to the lower right of the net past the goalkeeper to extend Massachusetts' lead to 2-0. It marked the second goal of the year for Dickson and first career brace.

In the second half, UMass and Buffalo came out strong defensively to maintain the Minutewomen's 2-0 lead. Buffalo tallied seven shots to UMass' six in the second half.

Buffalo had the slight edge in shots over Massachusetts, 12-11, but the Minutewomen placed six on goal, while the Bulls had five. The shots were even in the first half at five apiece. UMass only took one corner kick with Buffalo taking seven.

Along with Dickson's first career multi-goal game, Costello posted her first multi-assist game, including her first assist as a Minutewomen. Dickson led the team with five shots, which included three on goal, followed by Kayla Nohasiarisoa with two shots.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld earned her fifth shutout of the season, marking back-to-back shutouts. Nisenfeld stopped five shots on the day with no goals allowed. Buffalo's goalkeeper Lexie Thompson made three saves and allowed two goals.

UMass hosts Eastern Michigan on Sunday, October 12, at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
