Women’s Soccer Falls To Ohio

The Minutewomen prepare for their final regular season match on Wednesday, Oct. 29 against Bowling Green.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer fell to Ohio, 4-1, at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Minutewomen moved to 5-7-4 overall, including 3-5-2 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Bobcats improved to 5-9-5 on the season and 3-5-4 in the league.   
 
Ohio got on the board first early in the first half. Ella Deevers passed the ball up into the middle of the box up front, as Hailey Jeng chipped the ball into the back of the net at the 7:32 mark to make it a 1-0 game. Deevers gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead at the 37:59 mark.

One minute later, Aline Traber cut the deficit in half for UMass, 2-1, scoring her second goal of the year. Traber dribbled in a pass from Amelia Bloom right outside the box, before sailing the ball from the top of the 18-yard box into the lower left corner of the net. 

In the second half, the Bobcats were able to score two more goals to bring the game to its final score of 4-1. Kate Robinson and Maia Kaufman scored for Ohio at the 53:34 mark and the 60:57 mark, respectively.

Ohio outshot Massachusetts, 31-12, as the Bobcats placed 13 of those shots on frame and the Minutewomen had eight on goal. UMass had the slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
Peyton Costello led the Minutewomen in shots with three, followed by Amelia Deren, Sarah Flanagan and Traber with two each. Flanagan and Traber placed both their shots on net, while Costello, Deren, Morgan Bellamy and Annie McCaffrey all had one shot on goal.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld made three saves in 65 minutes of action, while allowing four goals. Fellow classmate Julia Rosenberg played 25 minutes in net for UMass, stopping six shots with no goals allowed.  

Celeste Sloma of Ohio allowed only one goal and made seven saves in full 90 minutes of action.

The Minutewomen wrap up the regular season with a home match against Bowling Green on Wednesday, October 29, at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
