Smida’s Overtime Goal Beats Bryant, Gives UMass Third Straight Win

Lauren Smida scored the game-winner in the 99th-minute off assists from Chandler Pedolzky and Bella Recinos.
AMHERST, Mass. – Lauren Smida scored her third goal of the season in the 98th-minute to help the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win over Bryant on Thursday evening. The win marked the third straight for the Minutewomen (3-2-0 Overall), who remain home on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Merrimack.
Bryant jumped ahead 1-0 in the 14th-minute on a Catherine Bean goal from the left side of the field that found the right corner of goal. The Bulldogs finished with five shots in the first half and seven for the game with four finding frame.
The Minutewomen fired off 17 shots on the windy afternoon and found the target on seven shots, led by four from Ava Jouvenel and three from Smida.
Jouvenel stepped up to the penalty spot after Chandler Pedolzky drew a late penalty in the 88th-minute and put home a right-footed shot into the right side of goal to send the match to the overtime period.
Smida secured a UMass win in the 99th-minute with her team-leading third goal of the season, putting one into the left side of goal with her right foot after a pass from Chandler Pedolzky found Bella Recinos before Smida's finish.
UMass will be off for a week following Sunday's match against Merrimack and will pick things back up with a Sept. 12 road matchup at Northeastern.
